one love

I am without a doubt one of the biggest music lovers ever. From a very early age, I was always surrounded by someone playing music or was listening to the music my parents were playing on the 8 track – yep, I said it, 8 track!

Does anyone else miss the simplicity of being in the passenger seat of an old Chevy regular cab step side truck with the windows rolled down on a hot summer day listening to Don Williams with your Dad? Don’t forget about shifting from side to side so your legs wouldn’t get super stuck to the seat! Ahhhhh the good old days!

Fast forward 10 years to the first time I heard “One” by U2 on the radio, coming out of the speakers on my little ghetto blaster. I have no idea how many cassettes I burned through trying to tape it from the radio station. ALOT.

I wish iTunes was around then so I could give you an accurate count as to how many times I’ve listened to that song.  Being that the song was released in 1992, I can safely say that it’s well over 500 times, probably closer to 1000.  That’s alot of time invested in one song. And, I have alot of them like that. And I love that.

I was listening to it AGAIN this week, and I grabbed a piece of paper to write down this line of the lyric.

we’re one, but we’re not the same

Being 15, I had no idea what that meant, but now I do, and it’s really amazing to me how we only hear what we need at any one particular time in our lives.  I’ve heard those words put together for almost 25 years. I’ve heard them, but did I listen? I think I have since it’s been on my yoga playlist for when I teach with the hopes that it will resonate with someone as much as it has for me.  So it begs the question…what else have I heard, that I haven’t listened to? I can say that but it doesn’t really matter because when I’m ready I’ll hear it. It’s all about trust.

We all have differences, but, at the very core,
we are all one, all the same, all connected.

How we choose to handle those differences, IS the difference!

I was going to write about this “one line of lyric“, and then I wasn’t, and then I was, my mind never really made up until I saw Keith Urban’s tribute to Orlando.  He is also by far, one of my favorite musicians because I absolutely love how he shares his guitar playing talent with all of us, but the way he can tell a story through his words is simply breathtaking.

So when I saw this video pop up on my Facebook feed, (watch here!) I knew I had to write about it and I knew I had to share because it just hits me in the heart so much.  The amount of suffering in the world really gets to me, so I choose…….one big happy love!

We are ALL connected.

Here are the lyrics…

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you now
You got someone to blame
You say…

One love
One life
When it’s one need
In the night
One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you
Don’t care for it

Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it’s…

Too late
To drag the past out into the light
We’re one, but we’re not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head

Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it’s all I got
We’re one
But we’re not the same
Well we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again
You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can’t be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
One life
But we’re not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

Thank you to U2 (Bono for writing it), and Keith Urban for performing. You have touched my heart forever.
