oh the irony

Right now I have a personal challenge going on for the next 30 days. You can read all about it here. It’s all about how I’m not buying anything for myself for the next 30 days. On the flipside, here comes the irony…I’m also asking if you’d like to buy something from me. No folks, you can’t make this up.

Since the summer I’ve been toying around with becoming a Stella & Dot representative.  I’ve tried it before, hosted a party or two but really felt uncomfortable asking people for well…anything. These types of “party’s” usually have a bit of a bad rap and I’m not a seller of anything. That being said, I do like to buy – hence the challenge. So if you’re a small local business or another Stella & Dot rep, I’m in. I love to support you.

After being approached by a previous customer to buy jewelry again, I had to sit down and think about my WHY. Why was I considering doing this…again? I’ve been down this path before and IT. DIDN’T. WORK. So after considering this for over 2 months, I decided to sign up for a reason.

My reason is this. I feel passionate about authentic reminders. I really do. I am not a person who easily reminds my own self about things that I previously said were important to me. I need to schedule things. Workouts are in my calendar. Drinking water is set as a reminder. Eating snacks are in there too. My morning practice? Not anymore. Now its a habit. I don’t need a reminder for THAT. But I do need a reminder for the small things.

In October of 2017, I saw an author at an event. Her name is Danielle Laporte. She spoke at that event about following your dreams and passions but also asked tough questions. Things like, “What are you doing in your life to positively impact the people around you?” Ok well. When you put it that way. So, let me do some thinking on that.

That day, I bought a mala bracelet at the trade show by a small business from Calgary, AB. I still wear it today. Every time I look at it I am reminded that she asked me a big question and I am invested in finding the answer.

So what am I doing? I am sharing a process that works for me. I personalized & bought a necklace personalized for me that says, “lead with love”.  I’m wearing it today, and it serves as a reminder that I went through the process of meditating on this, of working with this for the last 2 months. Of investigating what lead with love means to me. One of those reasons is to show up for me, show up for my family, and to show up with all of you here.  This world needs more love. More connectedness. This is my reminder to lead with love first in every situation. And I’m going to try. I won’t get it right every time, I know this. BUT, if it’s visible, in my line of sight everyday, then I will have a better shot at remembering.

So maybe you have a word that you’re working with for the coming year. Maybe you want to make something that is just for you, that has meaning just for you. This is what this is.  This is intentional. This means something. This means that you give a damn, and that you want more for your life.

This isn’t just buying something because you could. Because you like me and want to support me. Which is great, but not the intention. This is for you. I just came up with the idea. If it works, great, if it doesn’t? That’s ok too. Writing whatever you need to hear and sticking it on your mirror does the exact same thing.

Do this for you, not for me.

This is my process for remembering. This physical token. If this type of process resonates with you, the link is below for you to create your own personalized necklace or personalized piece now through Monday, the 19th. If it doesn’t? I would love to hear how you remind yourself of the important things in your life.
